The UK’s public sector is in a pivotal position to lead the charge toward decarbonisation, and with the launch of Phase 4 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS), there are new funding opportunities available to support this transition. This phase is designed to accelerate the shift toward low-carbon heating solutions within public buildings, aligning with the UK’s broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions.
Key Details of Phase 4
Launched in October 2024, Phase 4 focuses on financing energy efficiency measures that cut emissions while reducing energy costs – a crucial factor given today’s energy landscape. Public sector bodies, from local councils to hospitals and schools, are encouraged to submit their applications by November 25, 2024. Projects that are approved will receive financial support under certain conditions, particularly for upgrading to low-carbon heating systems. For 2025-2026, £670 million will be available, followed by £300 million in 2026-2027 and £200 million in 2027-2028. All projects must be completed by March 31, 2028.
Who is Eligible and How to Apply?
Eligibility for Phase 4 is extended to public sector organisations across England, provided that the projects align with PSDS requirements, such as investing in sustainable heating and energy-efficient technologies. Those interested should carefully review the application guidelines, as funding will be competitive and focused on projects that showcase substantial carbon reduction impacts.
